Tales from the Creek | Bev Shepard Marley - Volleyball

TFTC - Bev Marley

March 24, 2025
In the fall of 1987, Bev Shepard took a chance on a Campbell volleyball program that had just started up two years earlier.

Over the next four years, Bev played in every match and every set for the Camels, led the team to its first winning record and a spot in the 1989 Big South Conference title game.

A three-sport standout at Dixon High School, Bev not only excelled on the floor, but also in the classroom at Campbell, where she served as team captain.

Just one year after her 1991 graduation, Bev and her husband Jamie returned to Buies Creek, where she took over as head coach of the program.

After guiding her alma mater's volleyball team for two years, the Marley family returned to their native Onslow County where Bev began a coaching career that lasted two decades and included a combined 21 state playoff appearances for her volleyball and basketball teams.

Earlier this year, Bev Shepard Marley became the first volleyball player to be inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame.

In the next installment of Tales from the Creek, Bev Marley chats with Stan Cole about her path to Campbell, raising a family while teaching and coaching, and more.
