Josh Owens arrived at Campbell in the fall of 2007 as a 3-sport standout from nearby Sampson County. Over the next four years, Josh not only helped re-start Campbell's football program after a 58-year hiatus, but he took full advantage of his time on campus.
Somehow, Josh devoted himself not only to the Campbell football team but also made the time to be involved in local ministry, athletics marketing and even campus and regional theater.
Adhering to Campbell University's conviction that there is no conflict between the life of faith and the life of inquiry, Josh earned his undergraduate degree and has since added three master's degrees and most recently a PhD.
In addition to serving as senior pastor at First Baptist Church in Lumberton, he now finds the time to work as a college football and high school football and basketball official. He and his wife, Lindsey, are proud parents of three.
In the next episode of Tales from the Creek, Josh Owens talks with
Stan Cole about growing up in a small town, attending basketball games as a child at Carter Gym, his path to Campbell, being a member of Campbell's first Division I football team, his faith, and more.
Suggestions for future Tales from the Creek interview subjects are always welcome and may be sent to
