2006: Named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Team... Played in all 19 games with 15 starts at right back, while contributing three assists... Made successful transition from outside midfielder to outside back in ?06...  Helped lead CU to the best team goals-against average (1.18) in the A-Sun... Helped hold Campbell opponents to one, or fewer, goals in 13 contests...  Picked up assists in wins over UNC Asheville (9/2), High Point (9/20) and Lipscomb (10/21)... Has played in 54 games (39 starts) over his first 3 years...

 

2005:  Named to Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team... Played in all 20 matches (17 starts) in 2005 season with one goal and two assists... Scored game-winning goal vs. Gardner-Webb (10/22) on Homecoming... Assisted on Justin Madrid’s game-winner at UNC Asheville (10/17)... Has played in 35 games (24 starts) over 2 years...

 

2004:  Saw action in 15 matches with seven starts as a freshman... Scored two goals on eight shots... Made a start in his collegiate debut in the season opener at number-18 Old Dominion (9/1)... Started in 2-1 overtime victory vs. High Point on Parents Day (10/23) and scored the first goal of the game for his first career strike... Also scored CU’s first goal in 3-2 win at Gardner-Webb (11/6) in season finale...

 

Prep/Personal: Matthew Edward Lightner was a three-time all-district performer, who earned two all-conference awards and all-region honors during his senior year at Rockbridge High School... Scored 12 goals with 11 assists as a senior... Contributed 20 goals and 24 assists in prep career... Traveled two hours (one way) three times a week to St. Louis to train with Scott Gallagher club... From same club as CU teammate Aaron Johnson... National Honor Society student who earned a Presidential Academic Scholarship to Campbell... Trust management major... Born Feb. 15, 1986 in Austin, Texas... Nicknamed “Buzz” by his teammates...
