Shintaro “Shin” Tahara is in his third season as the Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning at Campbell University. He joined the Camels in 2013 after serving as a strength and conditioning coach at Loyola University of Chicago during the 2012-2013 academic year.

Tahara is responsible for the physical development of Campbell’s men’s basketball team as well as the men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s golf programs.

Prior to his time at Loyola, Tahara was a Sports Performance Coaching Graduate Assistant at Eastern Michigan University from Sept. 2010 to Apr. 2012.  While at Eastern Michigan, Tahara was responsible for the design and implementation of year round performance enhancement programs for men’s basketball, women’s tennis, and men’s golf. He was also an assistant for football, women’s basketball, volleyball, women’s soccer, women’s golf, and track and field.

Before his stint at Eastern Michigan, Tahara spent time as an intern with the Chicago Bulls of the NBA. In 2008 he interned as a strength and conditioning coach at the renowned Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning near Boston. Tahara also completed an internship at Creighton University from Jan.-July 2008. He was also a student assistant strength and conditioning coach at his alma mater, Nebraska-Kearney, from 2006-07.

Tahara graduated from the University of Nebraska-Kearney in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science with an emphasis on management. He also earned a master’s degree in exercise physiology from Eastern Michigan University

He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. In addition he holds a Level 1 Precision Nutrition Certification and USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach and is also certified in CPR and First-Aid.
