Biography

Career:  Four-time all-conference keeper Aaron Johnson broke Campbell University school keeper marks for matches played (74) and started (74), minutes played (6805) and career GAA (1.08)... His 331 saves are second only to Peter Moore’s 406 in the 46-year history of the Camel program... Moore is also the only Camel to record more career shutouts (24 from 1986-89) than Johnson (21)... In A-Sun history, Johnson stands second in both career GAA and shutouts and sixth in saves... During Johnson’s four-year career, Campbell won two A-Sun regular season championships (2005, 2008), one A-Sun tournament title (2007), and made the school’s first appearance in the NCAA Division I College Cup (2007)...  The Camels were ranked in the South Region in each of the last four years and compiled a 50-25-6 overall record (.654)...  CU also posted the best A-Sun regular season record (25-4-4, .818) of all league members since the start of the 2005 season and received the program’s first national ranking since 1988...

 

2008: Named Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Year and first-team all-conference... 4-time all-conference selection (1st team in each of last three years) and 3-time A-Sun all-tournament choice... Led the A-Sun in goals-against average (0.99), save percentage (.780) and shutouts (9) while playing all 1812 minutes in CU nets... Ranked 64th in the nation in GAA and 75th in save percentage... Led team to nation’s 35th-best shutout percentage and 56th-lowest GAA... Led Campbell to its first-ever year-end national ranking (#25 Soccer America) and highest-ever year-end NSCAA South Region ranking (#3), plus 2nd A-Sun regular season title in 4 years... Tied the school and league record for shutouts in a year, while compiling a school-record six of those in consecutive fashion from Oct. 18 through Nov. 4 and recording 649 shutout minutes in the process.... Notched shutout wins over UNC Wilmington (8/29), Georgia Southern (9/13), North Florida (10/9), Belmont (10/18), USC Upstate (10/23), ETSU (10/25), #7 North Carolina (10/28), Mercer (11/1) and High Point (11/4)... Saved a potential game-tying penalty kick in 3-2 victory over Florida Gulf Coast (10/4)... In 50 of his 74 career games, the Camels surrendered just one or no goals... Named Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive player of the week three times in 2008, seven times in his career... Captained Carolina Dynamo club of United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League during summer of 2008...

 

2007: Ranked 2nd in A-Sun and 84th in the nation in goals-against average (1.091) plus four shutouts in 20 matches for A-Sun tournament championship side... Finished 37th nationally in saves (4.6) per game and 56th in save percentage (.800)... Named to A-Sun All-Tournament team for 3rd-straight year... Fourth shutout of the season (and second against the Hatters) came in A-Sun semifinal vs. Stetson (11/15)... Gained all-conference honors for the third-straight year and first-team recognition for the second-consecutive season.... Named to NCCSIA All-State team... In 35 of his 54 career games, the Camels have surrendered one or no goals... Named A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week (Nov. 5) following a 4-save, 1-goal allowed performance in a 2-1 victory at North Carolina (10/31)... Recorded his 2nd-straight shutout in a 0-0 draw at Mercer (10/27) where he extended his scoreless minutes streak to 201... Compiled 4 saves in 2nd blanking of season, a 1-0 victory over USC Upstate (10/20)...  Had 9 saves in 1st shutout of the year (9th career) in 1-0 win at Stetson (9/29), which entered the game ranked 9th in the South region poll... Opening match starter for 2nd-straight year and made 10 saves at UNCW (9/1) in 2-1 OT win... Named to A-Sun pre-season all-conference team in voting by league head coaches...

 

2006:  First-team Atlantic Sun all-conference and all-tournament team keeper...  Ranked 3rd among league GKs in goals-against average (1.29)... Made 17 starts and ranked 2nd in league in saves (83) and saves per game (4.88)... Finished 31st in the country in saves... In only two years, he ranks 2nd on CU’s career GAA list (1.13), while ranking 9th in career keeper starts (34) and 10th in matches played (34)... Recorded shutouts in wins at Davidson and vs. North Florida... Allowed more than one goal in a game just six times all year... Named A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week Oct. 9...  Had career-high 12 saves in 1-1 draw at Stetson (9/28) and 11 stops vs. Gardner-Webb in A-Sun semifinal (11/3)...  Spent summer of 2007 playing with the Carolina Dynamo of the USL Premier Development League...

 

2005:  Shared A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year honors...  He earned second-team all-conference and all-freshman team recognition as well...  Shared team’s Jim McVeigh Award (outstanding freshman) with Sonny Guadarrama... Led the  A-Sun in goals-against average (0.98) and shutouts (6)... Posted 4th-lowest goals-against average in a year in Campbell men’s soccer history... Ranked 8th nationally in save percentage (.833) and 22nd in saves per game (5.0)... Recorded shutouts against #25 UNC Wilmington, Stetson, Belmont, Gardner-Webb, Mercer and Florida Atlantic... His 6 shutouts over 17 games marked the most for a Camel in a year since Travis Maloy had five clean sheets during the 1993 season... His 6 blankings ranks in a tie for 6th place on CU’s career single-season shutouts list... Campbell posted a 12-4-1 record (7-1-0 vs. A-Sun in regular season) in games started by Johnson... Named A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week twice... 

 

Prep/Personal:  Aaron Dietz Johnson led Christian Brothers College High School to a Missouri state championship and 31-2-1 record in 2004... Also was the starting keeper for the Scott Gallagher Soccer Club, which won the 2003 U.S. Club Soccer National Championship and 2004 USYSA national title... At Christian Brothers in St. Louis, Johnson earned second-team all-state honors as a senior when he amassed nine shutouts and a 0.42 goals-against average... During his four-year high school career, Christian Brothers compiled an 87-5-4 won-lost-tied record when he played... With Scott Gallagher, Johnson won the 2004 U.S. Youth Soccer Golden Gloves Award (as the best keeper at the national championships) and led his club to back-to-back state championships in 2003 and 2004... Played with the Missouri State Olympic Development Program (ODP) Team since 2001 and with the Region II ODP squad since 2004... Born Feb. 17, 1987 in St. Louis, Mo.... Business administration major...
