Mackenzie Castillo, LAT, ATC, joined Campbell University in June 2019 as a graduate assistant athletic trainer, working primarily with softball and women's swimming.
Prior to joining the CU sports medicine department, Castillo worked at Appalachian State University with the women's field hockey team as an intern athletic trainer and preceptor for the CAATE accredited athletic training program. She was involved in research pertaining to Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROM), which allowed her to better construct care for her student-athletes using patient evidence.
In 2018, Castillo earned her Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training and a minor in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. During her undergraduate studies, her clinical rotations landed her in a variety of collegiate settings spread throughout the Charlotte area including NCAA Division I UNC Charlotte and Davidson College, and NCAA Division II Queens University of Charlotte.
While at Charlotte, Castillo represented UNC Charlotte at the 2018 SEACSM Quiz Bowl in Chattanooga, Tenn. and played for UNCC’s women's club soccer team.
She returns to her mother, Nanci Castillo's ('03 PharmD. graduate) alma mater. Castillo is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers Association. She holds a certification from the Board of Certification of Athletic Trainers and licensure from the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners.
