Alan Quinn enters his third full season as an Assistant Coach for the Campbell track & field program in 2017-18. Quinn was hired in February of 2015 by Head Coach Michael Kelly and primarily works with the hurdlers, sprinters and relay teams.Â
Since joining CU’s coaching staff, Quinn has coached 16 Big South Conference Champions and 28 All-Big South Conference honorees and six NCAA Regional Qualifiers. Five Campbell track & field records have fallen under the purview of Quinn, including the indoor women’s 400m, 60m hurdles and 4x400m relay and the outdoor men’s 4x100m relay and women’s 100m hurdles. Lilla Juhasz owns two of the school records, as she broke the 100m hurdles record in 2015 and 400m hurdles mark in 2017.
He has helped to coach Campbell’s sprinters and hurdlers to national and conference recognition during his time at CU. Seven athletes have qualified for six events at the NCAA East Preliminary across the last three seasons. Juhasz made three straight appearances at the meet in the 100m hurdles from 2015-17.
Quinn’s athletes have picked up 10 Big South Conference weekly honors during his tenure at Campbell, including six in 2016 and four in 2017. In 2016, Juhasz was named the Big South Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, while Janai Scott was named the Most Outstanding Women’s Track Performer and Freshman of the Year following the outdoor season in 2017.
During his second full season at Campbell in 2017, Quinn’s athletes collected seven Big South Conference titles and 12 all-conference honors. Juhasz closed out her Camel career with Big South championships in the 60 and 100m hurdles. Scott made a splash in the conference during her freshman season, capping it off with titles in the 100m and 200m at the outdoor championships. In addition, the men’s and women’s 4x400m relays went all-conference indoor, while the men’s 4x100m relay won the outdoor title and the women earned all-conference honors.
In 2016, the sprinters and hurdlers made substantial improvements at the conference championships, winning five more titles than the previous season. At the Big South Indoor Championships, Juhasz won titles in the 60m and 60m hurdles, while Tashinga Chitambira (100m), Juhasz (100m hurdles), Khai McLin (200m), Tatiana Wolfe (400m) and the men’s 4x100m relay won titles at the outdoor championships. In addition, CU collected nine all-conference honors during the 2016 season.
He had an immediate impact on the success of the sprinters and hurdlers in 2015. At the indoor championships, Chitambira won the 60m title and Juhasz (60m hurdles), Lynette Akai (400m) and the women’s 4x400m relay team won all-conference accolades just weeks after Quinn arrived in the Creek. At the 2016 Big South Outdoor Championships, Quinn’s athletes collected one conference title and four all-conference honors.
Quinn joined the Fighting Camels coaching staff after serving as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at Texas Tech in 2014. He aided Associate Head Coach Dion Miller with the development of the sprinters, hurdlers and relay teams. During his time with the Red Raiders, his athletes brought home eight All-America honors between the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Quinn also had stints at Shorter University and Langston University prior to arriving in Lubbock, Texas. At Shorter, Quinn coached 14 All-Americans, four Peach Belt Conference champions and his athletes set four Peach Belt Conference records. The program captured the NCCAA Women’s Indoor Championship and was the runner-up in the Outdoor Championships during his tenure.
At Langston, Quinn mentored five individual national champions, a national championship relay team, 33 All-Americans, 55 conference champions and eight Red River Conference Championship meet records. In addition, Quinn’s athletes set 24 school records during his tenure.Â
