Andrew Thornton

Andrew Thornton joined Campbell lacrosse as director of operations in November of 2023.

"I am thrilled to be hiring Andrew to our staff," head coach Dawn Easley said. "He is a familiar face he has worked with our program for the last three years and I know first hand how he is going to make a difference for our program. Due to Andrews commitment, his science research has made an impact on the lacrosse world in terms of research on the sport of lacrosse. His loyalty and care for our team will make a huge difference as we make waves in our new era."

As director of operations, Thornton will coordinate and oversee all operational tasks for Campbell Lacrosse including practice and game operations, team activities, recruiting, budgeting and team travel logistics. He will also manage student interns and help ensure the program is compliant with NCAA rules and regulations.

Thornton joins the Camels after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant at Sam Houston State. While there he helped manage the day-to-day needs for a sport science research team that worked closely with the coaching staff to continuously monitor athletes. His daily responsibilities included scheduling, data collections, addressing technical and personnel issues as well as VX Sport software management. Thornton also mentored undergraduate research interns with the program.

Before earning his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Campbell in 2021, Thornton worked with Campbell Lacrosse as part of a sport science research internship. During his year long internship with the team, he helped gather information to obtain a better training regimen by collecting data via heart rate monitors and GPS tracking. Thornton produced a research paper that is published in the Journal of Athletic Enhancement while working with the team.

A native of Clinton, N.C., Thornton received his master’s degree in kinesiology, sport and human performance from Sam Houston State in 2023.
