Campbell University

Mary Kathryn Fiebernitz

Mary Kathryn Fiebernitz was added to the Campbell women's soccer staff in March of 2019.

She is responsible for training the defensive unit along with the goalkeepers, recruiting and other day-to-day operations.

"We are thrilled to round out our hiring process with the addition of Mary to our staff and program," said head coach Samar Azem. "We believe in surrounding our program with good people that are talented and driven in pursuit of their craft and Mary is no exception to that."

Fiebernitz comes to Campbell University after most recently serving as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater Michigan State University. In her role with the Spartans, Fiebernitz assisted with creating and discussing practice plans, and other team activities with other members of the Spartan staff. She also aided in the scouting process through film and both tactical and analytical break down of opposing teams.

"I am thankful to Wanda Watkins and Samar for the opportunity," stated Fiebernitz. "I am thankful to Michigan State and it's coaching staff for developing me as a player and a person."

While a student athlete at Michigan State, Mary Kathryn started for three years on the Spartans squad where she also served as a team captain during her junior and senior seasons. Mary Kathryn is a three-time All-Big Ten selection including a first team honor her senior season and a pair of second team accolades during her sophomore and junior seasons.

A member of the Spartan back line, Fiebernitz also garnered NSCAA All-Region honors her sophomore through senior seasons as well as Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2013 and 2014.

"I am very impressed with the facilities and the resources at Campbell for both the players and the staff. That, paired with people who are a kind and welcoming family, make it a special place," continued Fiebernitz.

After graduating from Michigan State with a bachelor of arts degree in interdisciplinary studies in December of 2015, Fiebernitz served a short stint as a volunteer assistant with the Spartans in 2016.

"She [Fiebernitz] is extremely driven, passionate, and is a genuinely good person that our players and recruits can emulate and learn from on and off the field," continued Azem. "The vision and mentality that allowed Mary to succeed in her career collegiately and post collegiately transcend into her coaching. She can teach the defensive unit to be successful and has the expectations and connectivity that will allow the players to pursue that excellence."

Mary Kathryn was invited to and participated in the 2016 preseason camp with the Washington Spirit's professional team in the NWSL as well as a month long 2018 preseason camp with Sky Blue FC's professional team in the NWSL.

"We are very excited to welcome Mary Kathryn to Campbell University, to our staff, and to our family."
