David Olson returns to Campbell as a volunteer assistant coachon Justin Haire's staff.
Olson comes back to Campbell after a year as an assistant coachat the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). The 2013 Campbell alumcoached corner infielders and offense with the Patriots, alsohandling West Coast recruiting.
“To be able to bring David back to Buies Creek has beenvery special for us,” said Haire. “As a player whohelped build this program into what it is today, a former AcademicAll-American, and just an enthusiastic and positive person, he wasthe perfect fit for our volunteer position."
“I am so excited to be back at Campbell,” saidOlson. “I am returning to the family atmosphere that I lovedas a player, and I am excited to work with Coach Haire in his firstseason as a head coach. This program has had great success over thelast three seasons, and I am excited to continue that as acoach.”
Olson lettered two seasons with the Camels in 2012 and 2013,twice earning Second Team All-Big South honors and taking CoSIDAAcademic All-America accolades as a senior.
"He has the passion and desire to become a great coach, and Ibelieve the experience that he will get on this staff working dailywith Coach Marx and Coach Steele, will help him to continue toblossom in the industry," added Haire. "We could not be moreexcited to have him back here in the Black and Orange.”
The Auburn, Wash. native hit .349 for the Camels in his two yearcareer, adding 81 RBI, 86 runs scored and eight home runs. He alsopitched in 27 games with a 3-1 record, seven saves and a 2.13 ERAafter transferring from Tacoma Community College.
