Clark named Attacking Player of the Year; Six individuals earn all-conference honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South announced its 2015 women's soccer all-conference teams and awards Friday morning as voted on by the league's coaches. Six individual student-athletes from the Fighting Camels women's soccer team earned all-conference honors.

Redshirt senior forward Ashley Clark earned Big South Attacking Player of the Year for the regular season after earning the same recognition in the preseason. Clark has been featured in the top-10 nationally in multiple offensive categories. She finished the regular season fifth in total points with 38, her 10 assists on the year place her seventh in the nation. She also is third on shots on goal per game with three and sits eighth nationally in points per game with 2.11. Her 14 goals placed her tied for 12th in the country. Clark is the first student-athlete in Campbell women's soccer history to earn this honor.

The Cary, N.C. native was also voted to the first-team all-conference. During her senior campaign, Clark started every contest for her squad and scored 14 goals and 10 assists, both of which led the Big South Conference.  She was named attacking player of the week three times this season and has appeared on the first-team all-conference each of her four seasons.

Payton Ormsby represents Campbell alongside Clark on the first-team all-conference. The Chesapeake, Va. native finished the regular season tied for second on the squad with five goals and held second place with eight assists. Her eight assists placed her 23rd in the nation for assists. She scored the game-winning goal against UAlbany at the beginning of the season after Clark played a high-arching cross into the box 1:44 into the first overtime.

Most recently, Ormsby claimed the final Big South Attacking Player of the Week award for her key performances to help the Orange and Black secure the No. 3 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. She provided the primary assist on the game-winning goal at Longwood and scored the lone goal at High Point in the season finale.

Senior goalkeeper Alexis Connors earned a spot on the honorable mention all-conference team. On the season, Connors started 15 matches for the Camels, yielding 1.27 goals-against per game while stopping 54 shots. Her four shutouts placed her fifth in the conference and she moved into third place all-time in Campbell record books with eight career solo shutouts. She was named defensive player of the week twice during the 2015 campaign.

Also on the honorable mention all-conference team as well as an all-freshman team honoree is forward Shannon Wratchford. The Spotsylvania, Va. product produced five goals for the Camels on the year including three game-winning goals. She grew into another strong attacking presence for the Orange and Black as the season progressed as she scored her five goals in the team's final nine matches. Wratchford's game-winning goal against Radford came 58 seconds into the overtime session as she was able to turn and create space away from the defender and bury a shot into the upper right corner from 20 yards away. She also placed a quality, sliding one-time finish off of a Clark cross in the first half against Coastal Carolina as Campbell won that contest 1-0.

Joining Wratchford on the all-freshman team is defender Anna Brantley. Brantley proved to be a mainstay at the backline for the Camels throughout the majority of her freshman season. She tallied the primary assist on Clark's 89th minute game-winning goal at Presbyterian. The Strongsville, Ohio native used her speed to earn loose balls in the defensive third of the field and disrupt opponent's attacks. Her free kick play provided dangerous scoring opportunities for the Camels throughout the season.

Kine Thorsvik was named to the Big South All-Academic team as the representative from the Campbell women's soccer team. Thorsvik is a two-time member of the Big South Honor Roll and is pursuing a degree in Business Administration, along with a 3.77 grade point average. She recorded a pair of assists in the Camels 2-1 victory versus East Tennessee State and scored the game-winning goal at Longwood.

Campbell women's soccer hosts UNC Asheville Sunday at 3 p.m. in the first round of the 2015 Big South Conference tournament.
