BUIES CREEK, N.C.- The Campbell football program announced its 2011
recruiting class this morning, June 2. The 27-member group has all
signed letters of commitment and all have also completed enrollment
requirements for the university. This is the fifth official signing
class for Coach Steele and the Camels, who will begin play this
fall with a road game against Old Dominion on September 3rd at 6
p.m.
"We are pleased with the additions to the football team that we
made", head coach Dale
Steele explained. "This is the first time that we have been
able to bring in a class that had players at every position.
Ideally this is what you set out to do when recruiting. In the past
we have been forced to bring in a lot of players in an effort to
fill a roster. This season we had the opportunity to be more
specific in filling the team with players that will have the
opportunity to move up the depth chart quickly and compete for
significant playing time when the seniors graduate next year. We
brought in a good number of wide receivers, but we also recruited
one offensive lineman at each position. We added a few defensive
linemen to add depth to the position. We added a few linebackers in
this year's class because the change in scheme in the off-season
dictated that it was a need. "
The class includes 21 North Carolina natives, two from South
Carolina and Georgia and one from Virginia and Texas.
Campbell's football team reports to campus on August 1st. The
Camels' first day of practice will be on Wednesday, August 3rd in
the morning in shorts. Campbell will host Fan Appreciation/Media
Day on Saturday, August 27th at the CU Football Fieldhouse at
Barker-Lane Stadium. All fans are welcome to meet and take pictures
of the players, coaching staff and the facility at that point.
Further details about the event will follow in a later release.
The Camels will return 44 letterwinners and 16 starters from last
year's team including all-Pioneer Football League Second Team
selections in offensive lineman Sam
Issermoyer, defensive lineman Randel
Herring and defensive back Jared
Hart.
