Robinson Quiets Camel Bats In 4-1 Georgia
State Win
BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Georgia State defeated Campbell University
4-1 on the strength of a complete game performance by Ronnie
Robinson. The senior right -hander allowed just one run and struck
out nine on his way to picking up his third win of the 2003
season.
The Fighting Camels jumped on the board first in the third
inning, taking a 1-0 lead on Sal Deanda's two-out single that
scored Jason Brown from second.
CU starter Matt Kleweno cruised through the first six innings
before running into trouble in the seventh. After a one-out double
by Stanley Wise, Kyle Breitbach followed with a single, advancing
Wise to third. Kevin Kawasaki then delivered a two-out bloop
single, just out the reach of CU left fielder Nic Ewing, scoring
both runners and giving the Panthers a 2-1 advantage. GSU tacked on
a third run later in the inning, when Kawasaki was brought home on
a Mike Buchanan single.
Kawasaki scored the Panthers fourth run of the game in the
ninth inning when he singled with one out, moved to second on a
ground out and came around to score on a Dustin Phillips two-out
double.
The Panthers managed 13 hits off Kleweno. The senior
left-hander, who falls to 1-1 on the season struck out a career
high eight batters. Josh Blades pitched 2.1 innings of relief,
allowing the final GSU run.
With the win the Panthers run their record to 5-4 overall and
1-0 in the A-Sun. The Camels suffer their third A-Sun loss in a row
which drops them to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the A-Sun.
The two teams will hook up tomorrow in doubleheader action
starting at 1:00 p.m. [Box
