Hokies Down Campbell 22-7
BLACKSBURG,
Va. - Brad Bauder and Chris Winterfeldt combined for 12 runs batted
in as Virginia Tech handed Campbell University a 22-7 loss at
English Field on Tuesday.
Bauder
(Ashburn, Va.) contributed two home runs and a double in six at
bats on the way to driving in seven runs and scoring four.
Winterfeldt (Lynchburg, Va.) collected a pair of doubles and four
total hits in five at bats to produce five runs and score three.
Tech (33-19) collected a total of 17 hits in the contest.
Bauder
helped the Hokies get started with a two-run double in the first
inning, then added a two-run homer in the third inning. The senior
center fielder added an RBI on a fielder's choice in the fourth
inning and capped
his day with another two-run homer in the seventh.
Both
of Winterfeldt's doubles came in the fourth inning when the Hokies
broke the game open with nine runs. The senior first baseman led
off the inning with a double and scored on a single by shortstop
Spencer Harris
(Louisa, Va.). Second baseman Marc Tugwell (Springfield, Va.)
belted a three-run double in the inning and, following Bauder's
run-scoring fielder's choice, Winterfeldt smacked another three-run
double. Third baseman Chris Stanton (Centreville, Va.) finished the
inning off with an RBI-single. Winterfeldt added a two-run single
in the fifth inning, then
singled and scored a run in the seventh.
Junior
right-hander Jay Musialowski (Depew, N.Y.) started on the mound for
Tech and picked up his second win against one loss. Musialowski
pitched six innings, allowing nine hits and five runs. He struck
out six batters and walked just one. Redshirt freshman David
Londrey (Richmond, Va.), who had seen all his action this season as
a catcher and designated hitter, pitched
the final three innings for Tech to earn a save.
Campbell
(20-27) scored twice in the fourth inning behind an RBI-double by
first baseman Chris Wiley and a run-scoring single by designated
hitter Jonathan Sanderlin. The Camels picked up two more runs in
the fifth inning on catcher Jason Brown's double. They also got a
run-scoring triple from center fielder Jeff Blick in the sixth
inning and a solo home run from shortstop Derek Barrows in the
seventh. Barrows finished the scoring with an RBI-double in the
ninth inning. The loss went to Campbell starter Josh
Blades (5-2) who pitched just one inning.
Bauder
and Winterfeldt got plenty of offensive help from Tugwell and
Stanton. Tugwell finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs and four
runs scored, while Stanton was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs
scored.
The
Diamond Camels will next travel to Troy, Ala., for their season
finale series against the Troy State Trojans this weekend. Game
one is slated for Friday, May 16 at 6:00 p.m., while Saturday's
double header will start at 1:00 p.m. [Box
