Belmont Ousts Campbell From A-Sun Men's Tennis
Championship 4-1
DeLAND,
FLA. - Belmont eliminated Campbell from the Atlantic Sun Conference
Men's Tennis Championship Friday with a 4-1 decision in the
quarterfinal round.
The
fifth-seeded Bruins (12-10) avenged a 5-2 loss at Campbell last
month by winning the doubles point, then claiming three of four
singles matches.
Fausto
Rocha and Ignacio Gesto won in straight sets at number four and six
singles, respectively. Javier Rodriguez added the decisive fourth
point at number-three, rallying from a one-set deficit to down
Campbell's Carlos Campo 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Campbell
(10-10), seeded fourth, was unable to match last year's run to the
A-Sun final. Campbell senior Jiri Beranek played his final match
with CU, completing his career with 61 singles victories, seventh
all-time in the school's Division I era.
The
top two singles matches were halted when Belmont secured the dual
match victory. Belmont advances to Saturday's semifinal round
against top-seeded Troy.
