Box Score

BUIES CREEK, N.C. –Campbell's football team (1-6, 0-4 PFL) scored their second Pioneer Football League touchdown of the season, on a C.J. Oates reception, but came up on the short end of a 56-7 score to Butler (4-1, 2-0 PFL) on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Barker-Lane Stadium.

After a promising opening Campbell drive ended in a turnover, the Bulldogs marched down the field and scored on a 5-yard pass from Matt Kobli to Dan Bohrer. The made extra point from Jordan Quiroz made the score 7-0 with 8:52 left in the first quarter.

Butler, after a stalled Campbell drive, continued to excel and went on an eight-play 57-yard drive finished off on a Ryan Hitchcock 4-yard touchdown run. The Quiroz extra point made it 14-0 with 3:12 left in the first quarter.

After another Campbell turnover, the Butler offense would march down the field and scored on the Kobli's second touchdown pass of the quarter, this one to Eddie McHale, to make the score 21-0 with 1:02 left in the opening period

A change at quarterback sparked the Campbell offense with Wesley Snow engineering a 13-play 68-yard drive finished off on a 19-yard reception from Oates. Oates caught the screen pass and then eluded several Butler defenders to the end zone. The Adam Willets kick cut the deficit to 21-7 with 9:40 left in the half.

The Bulldogs offense would answer on the ensuing drive with Kobli moving the team down the field again, this one finished off on his 22-yard touchdown pass to Hitchcock, to make the score 28-7 after Quiroz's extra point. Kobli had an impressive half and went 16-for-19 for 183 yards and three touchdowns.

The Butler offense continued to move the ball in the second half and tallied the first score with 7:03 left in the third quarter on Dionte Wiggins 14-yd run to increase the margin to 35-7.

The Bulldogs continued to pour it on with Hitchcock scoring his third touchdown of the afternoon, this one on a 20-yard jaunt to increase the advantage to 42-7.

The backup quarterback for Butler, Andrew Huck, got into the act next and after a near missed fake exchange between him and the running back ran it 39 yards through the Campbell defense for the touchdown to make the score 49-7 with 12:52 left in the game.

The Bulldogs would add one more touchdown, a Wiggins 18-yard run, to make the final score 56-7.

BU outgained the Camels 535 to 176 on the day, with Kolbi going 23-for-29 with touchdown passes. Hitchcock gained 109 yards with two touchdowns on only 11 carries. Oates led the Campbell effort with 69 yards rushing on his 13 carries.

"We set a standard for play here and we didn't play to that standard today," head coach Dale Steele explained. "I'm really disappointed, although Butler is a good football team and a greatly improved team from last year, we didn't play the way I've seen us play this year. I do know my coaching staff and I will look at everything we are doing and challenge ourselves and our players to get better for next week's game against Drake.'

Campbell now heads to Iowa to take on PFL rival Drake (2-3, 0-2 PFL) at 1 p.m. CDT on Oct. 18.
