DELAND,
FLA. - Stetson used a five run fifth inning to power past Campbell,
11-7, in game three of the Atlantic Sun Conference series on Friday
afternoon.
Campbell (17-12, 4-8 A-Sun) was able to get a series high seven
runs off of 13 hits but Stetson (15-14, 4-2 A-Sun) pounded out 11
runs off of 17 hits to better Campbell's output.
The Fighting Camels were able to collect the only lead of the
series in the top of the second as Bryan Braswell collected his
only RBI of the series as he sent a single to center field scoring
Zach Johnson.
Stetson answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning as
Kurt Schluter grounded out to Kevin Nelson at shortstop but the
play allowed Spencer Theisen to score from third and knotted the
game up at one.
In the third Campbell starter Matt Sergey got into some problems as
he gave up an RBI double to left field off the bat of Ryan Lashley,
an RBI to Spenser Theisen who collected it as he grounded out to
Ellis Lowe at second and gave up the second RBI double of the
inning to Nick Rickles.
Sergey ran into more trouble in the fifth as he gave up an RBI
single to Nick Rickles to center field. Sergey then walked Robert
Crews and that would signify the end of his day and he gave the
ball up to Campbell reliever Ben Brown. Brown didn't stay in the
game long as the junior hit his first batter, which scored a run,
and then walked in a run as James Rasmussen collected the walk and
the RBI. After walking Rasmussen, Brown gave way to Jeff Rydman.
Rydman proceeded to give up a two RBI single to center field to
Sean Emory but was able to get Campbell out of the inning as Nick
Jones grounded into a 6-4-3 double play.
Down 9-1 going into the sixth inning Campbell didn't back down as
they scored two in the top half of the stanza. Zach Johnson sent
an RBI single through the left side that brought around Alan
Denman. Later in the inning Bryan Braswell reached on an error by
starting first baseman Kurt Schluter which allowed Alex Aycoth to
score.
The scoring was stalemated until the seventh when Stetson extended
their lead to seven off of the RBI double to right center from Mark
Jones.
In the top half of the eighth though Campbell showed that the
offense wasn't done yet as they scored two runs off of a Josh
Holskey double to the wall in left center.
After Stetson put up their final run in the bottom half of the
eighth following a Nick Rickles single up the middle to score Ryan
Lashley; Campbell mounted another couple of runs in the top of the
ninth.
Noah Zipko registered an RBI as the freshman came in and singled to
right field scoring Alan Denman. Josh Holskey registered his third
RBI as the sophomore came through with a sacrifice fly to right
field that brought home Alex Aycoth from third.
Matt Sergey was given the loss on the outing as the junior went 4.1
innings while giving up eight earned runs off of 11 hits. Sergey
falls to 2-3 on the season with the decision.
For the Hatters the win went to Kyle Maulbetsch went pitched five
innings while giving up two earned runs off of five hits.
Maulbetsch moves to 3-3 on the campaign with the win.
Campbell will be off until Wednesday night when they will travel to
face off against UNC Wilmington. First pitch is slated for 6:00
p.m.
