BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell faces the first of four men's soccer
opponents from the Southern Conference on Tuesday when the Fighting
Camels travel to Davidson for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off.
The Camels (0-0-2) opened the year last week with a pair of
double-overtime draws - 0-0 vs. 2009 NCAA College Cup participant
Loyola and 1-1 at Richmond.
Sophomore keeper Ryan Amons allowed just one goal in 220 minutes
while recording nine saves and his first career shutout. Freshman
midfielder Jared Girard notched his first career goal on Saturday
at Richmond off an assist from sophomore Mitchell Cardenas.
On Tuesday, the Camels look to avenge a 5-2 loss to the Wildcats
last season at the Eakes Complex. The schools have equally split
(5-5) the all-time series, which dates to 1963, Campbell's first
varsity season.
Davidson (1-0-1) enters Tuesday's contest ranked eighth in this
week's NSCAA South Region poll after a 6-1 victory over Marist
Friday and a 2-2 draw Sunday against Bowling Green. Yannick
Pilgrim and Mark Millard both and scored twice for the Wildcats,
who have netted eight of their 16 shots on target.
In addition to Davidson, Campbell will face UNC Greensboro,
Applachian State and Furman from the SoCon during the 2010
season.
Following Tuesday's contest, Campbell will have the weekend off
from competition before returning to action on Wed., Sept. 15 at
home vs. UNC Wilmington.
