Belmont Downs Men's Basketball, 90-55

NASHVILLE, TENN.-Ian Clark led four Bruins in double figures with a game-high 20 points, pacing Belmont to a 90-55 Atlantic Sun win over Campbell Saturday night inside the Curb Event Center.

Belmont moves to 16-3 on the year and a perfect 8-0 in A-Sun play with its sixth consecutive win. The Camels, meanwhile, fall to 9-7 overall and 3-4 in league games.

Clark, a sophomore guard, connected on 7-of-8 attempts from the floor, including 4-of-4 from distance, adding five assists. Junior center Mick Hedgepeth poured in 16 points for the Bruins with three blocks, while Scott Saunders, another junior center, registered another 16 points in the win. Freshman guard JJ Mann tallied 10 points with three rebounds and three assists.

Redshirt junior guard Cole Dewey and freshman guard Rico Ferguson paced Campbell with 11 points apiece. Dewey scored all of his career-high 11 in the second half, while Ferguson poured in 10 points in the second frame, adding five rebounds.

Freshman forward Marvelle Harris tacked on six points and six boards in the loss, while Lorne Merthie, Anthony Dees and Anthony Horton posted five points each. Martell Jackson added five rebounds.

The Bruins jumped out to an early 13-5 lead behind five points from Clark and four from Saunders. After Merthie cut the lead to six with a jumper at the 13:57 mark, Belmont piled on a 21-1 blitz before Griffin tallied the next Campbell field goal with 4:33 to play in the first half. Belmont took a 45-14 lead into the break, the Camels' largest first half deficit of the season.

Up 34 at the break, Belmont extended its lead to 40, 54-14, at the 17:03 mark on Clark's fourth three point basket.

Despite Campbell shooting 57.7 percent in the second half, the Camels could not climb out from the Belmont advantage, which reached as many as 43 in the final stanza. The Bruins took the 90-55 win.

The Camels will be back in action on Monday, remaining in the Music City for a 7 p.m. contest at Lipscomb.
