WASHINGTON D.C. – Campbell's run in the CAA tournament ended in the semifinals with a 74-64 defeat to fourth-seeded Monmouth.
Campbell finishes the 20225-26 season 17-19, 8-10 in CAA play. This squad was the first to win a CAA postseason game, and then upended top-seeded and in-state rival UNCW in the quarterfinal.
The Camels coughed up a season-high 23 turnovers against an aggressive Monmouth defense, limiting scoring chances and runs throughout the game. The Hawks cashed in those 23 turnovers for 22 points.
Jeremiah Johnson was a bright spot on offense for the Camels, scoring a game-high 21 points on 8-10 shooting.
The Camels fell behind early due to turnovers on three of the first four possessions. Campbell managed to keep it close despite 15 first-half turnovers and went to the break trailing 30-24.
The second half saw more of the same with eight more turnovers and shooting only 2-14 from beyond the arc after halftime. The Monmouth lead grew to as many as 15, with Campbell unable to shoot their way back into the contest, ultimately falling 74-64.
Monmouth was led by 19 points from Kavion McClain, pacing four Hawks that finished in double figures.
DJ Smith scored 14 points to join Johnson in double figures. Smith finishes the season having scored 633 points, good for the fifth most in a season in program history, having passed both Anthony Dell'Orso and Jonathan Rodriguez during tonight's game. His scoring average of 19.2 is good for seventh, and his 98 made three-pointers are good for fourth.
