BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell University has announced its 2011
men's soccer spring season schedule. Head coach Steve Armas'
Camels will host four events, opening with a March 16 contest
against USL Pro Division member Wilmington Hammerheads.
The Camels will face a Wilmington team that includes former CU
All-American Richard Jata, who signed a contract with the Port City
club. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
Virginia Commonwealth also visits the Eakes Athletic Complex on
Sat., Mar. 26 (7:00 p.m.).
Campbell will also host the highly-regarded CASL Elite men's team
on Sat., Apr. 2 (7:00) and an international side Sports Ed on
Tues., Apr. 14 (7:00).
The Camels travel to Elon on Thurs., Apr. 7, squaring off against
Lenoir-Rhyne at 6:15 p.m., and Elon at 7:30.
CU also will play in the UNC Wilmington 7-A-Side tournament on
Saturday, Apr. 9.
The Fighting Camel program that has produced a 64-44-11 overall
record (.584) and 36-10-5 league mark (.755) and won four
conference trophies since the 2005 campaign. Campbell will return
to competition in the Big South Conference in the fall of 2011.
Campbell returns three players who earned Atlantic Sun
all-conference honors in 2010. Mitchell Cardenas was named to the
all-conference first team, while Ben Iiames gained second-team
honors. Justin Franz was selected for the A-Sun all-freshman
team.
