BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell pounded out 12 runs on 13 hits and Heath Bowers fanned nine to lead the Camels past Manhattan 12-2 in Friday's Campbell Invitational opener at Jim Perry Stadium.

Danny Pardo and Steven Leonard each drove in two for Campbell (4-1). Pardo, a freshman from Pembroke Pines, Fla., went 2-for-4 with a double, also scoring two runs, while Leonard added a run scored.

Andrew Gorecki went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI for Manhattan (0-1) in the loss.

Heath Bowers (2-0) earned his second win, going seven innings with nine strikeouts and two walks, allowing two runs, both unearned, on three hits. Freshman Tyler Aiken tossed the final two frames, allowing just two hits with a strikeout and a walk.

Matt Simonetti (0-1) took the loss for the Jaspers, surrendering six runs on four hits with four walks and a strikeout. Sean Abbate allowed two runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief, while Mike Vacatura scattered three runs and five hits in an inning's work. Joe Jaques also allowed a run in his only inning.

After Campbell got on the board in the first with Kyle Leady's sacrifice fly to score Danny Pardo, the Camels added another in the third on a Matt Nadolski fielder's choice.

The Camels sent nine men to the plate in their six-run fifth, clubbing five hits, with RBI base hits from Will Albertson, Clayton Brown and Pardo. Brooks Borders, who went 3-for-3 on the night, and Sam Rector, who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the win, also gathered hits in the inning.

Campbell also pushed three across in the seventh and another in the eighth in the 12-2 win.

Pardo reached base safely to lead off for the Camels for the fifth time in five games this season, while CU plated a season-best 12 runs.

The Camels continue Campbell Invitational play tomorrow, hosting Delaware at 3:30 p.m., followed by Manhattan at 7 p.m. Day two will begin with Delaware vs. Manhattan in a game that was rescheduled from Friday due to inclement weather.
