WILMINGTON, N.C. – Ryan Foster tossed eight scoreless frames to lead UNC Wilmington past visiting Campbell 3-0 Tuesday night at Brooks Field.
UNCW improved to 15-16 overall with the win, while Campbell dips to 22-12 on the season, ending a three-game winning streak.
Foster, who carried a no-hitter with two outs in the seventh, evened his record to 1-1, allowing two hits with four strikeouts and two walks in eight innings. The sophomore retired 16 in a row from the second into the seventh, ending with Elijah Trail's double to center with two outs.
After a leadoff walk in the ninth, Kelly Secrest induced two ground balls, one for a double play to end the game, picking up his second save of the season.
The Seahawks put two on the board in the first on back to back RBI singles from Corey Dick and Luke Dunlap after two reached with one out on a hit by pitch and a walk.
Terrence Connelly added a run for UNCW in the fourth with a bases loaded sacrifice fly, making it 3-0 Seahawks.
Dick went 3-for-4 to pace the Seahawks, while Robbie Thorburn tallied a 2-for-4 night, adding a run scored.
CU starter Andrew Witczak (2-3) allowed a pair of runs on two hits with a walk in 1/3 of an inning, taking the loss.
Bobby Thorson allowed a run on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks in 5 2/3 of relief work, coming into the game with one out in the first. The junior struck out the side in the second and pitched around a leadoff triple in the sixth.
Coley Thompkins walked one and struck out his final batter in the eighth.
Ryan Thompson worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning, striking out two in his 20th appearance of the season, extending his scoreless streak to 25 1/3 innings.
Matt Parrish also picked up a hit for the Camels.
Campbell returns home on Friday to begin a three-game Big South series with UNC Asheville before a six-game road swing.
