BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell set a school record with nine sacks and held visiting Drake to just 154 yards in a 24-14 win over Drake Saturday night at Barker-Lane Stadium.

Ugonna Awuruonye set CU Division I era (since 2008) records for sacks in a game (3) and career (19.5) and the Camels (3-2, 1-1 PFL) defeated the Bulldogs for the first time after dropping the first five games in the series.

Drake (2-3, 1-1) entered the game averaging nearly 400 yards (390.5) of total offense, but Campbell held the visitors to 40 rushing yards on 39 attempts and 114 yards through the air.  CU threw Drake quarterback Andy Rice for losses of 61 yards on its nine sacks.  Awuruonye finished with 10 total tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss in addition to his three sacks.

Rice had been sacked only 10 times in Drake's first four games, but was thrown for losses three of the final four times he dropped back Saturday night.  The Bulldogs had only 46 yards of total offense in the second half.

Kameron Bryant completed 11-of-23 passes for 174 yards and one touchdown and Aaron Blockmon hauled in three receptions for 99 yards for the Camels, who amassed 300 total yards on the night.  Jared Joyner ran for 58 yards and one score, while wide out Ben Bolling threw for a touchdown on the same night he set the school record for career receiving yards (1248).

Daniel Bostick and Dwan Hanshaw (1.5 sacks) added seven tackles for the Camels, while Jake Barr made six stops.

Rice finished the night 12-of-27 for 114 yards and two scores for Drake.  Gary Scott ran 13 times for 35 yards, while Michael Hudson had three catches for 33 yards and two TDs.  John Hugunin had 11 tackles and Bob Quilico 10 for the Bulldogs.

Mitchell Brown put the Camels in front with 4:52 left in the opening period on a 46-yard field goal.  It was the longest made by a Campbell player at Barker-Lane Stadium and the second-longest field goal in CU's Division I era (since 2008).

Drake drove 41 yards in six plays to take the lead on Hudson's seven-yard TD reception from Rice with 14:13 left in the second quarter.

Bolling set the school record for career receiving yards on an eight-yard catch in the second quarter.  He broke the mark of 1240 yards set by Harrison Jordan (2008-11).

Campbell drove 80 yards in seven plays to take the lead.  Bryant's 36-yard toss to Damon Simmons gave the Camels a first down on the Drake 19. Joyner then burst up the middle and cut right and dove into the end zone for a 10-7 advantage with 51 seconds to play in the opening half.

Hudson hauled in Rice's 13-yard pass in the left corner of the end zone to cap a seven-play, 49-yard drive and give Drake a 14-10 lead with 5:21 remaining in the third quarter.

The Camels answered with a five-play, 68-yard march to take a 17-14 lead.  Bryant hit Blockmon for a 31-yard gain. Two plays later Bolling threw a 14-yard scoring pass on an end around to Andre Davis and Campbell went ahead 17-14 with eight seconds to play in the third.

Bryant connected with Blockmon on a 53-yard scoring pass down the right sideline with 2:56 remaining to put Campbell ahead 24-14 with 2:56 remaining in the fourth.

The Camels took over on downs inside the Drake one with 59 seconds left in the game, but Bryant took a knee twice to end the game.

Campbell returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 10) with a 6:00 p.m. kick-off at home vs. Marist.
