HIGH POINT, N.C. – Cole Hallum knocked in four, drilling his third home run of the series, and No. 27 Campbell topped High Point 9-4 Sunday in Big South action Sunday at Williard Stadium.
Hallum belted a three-run homer in the top of the ninth, extending Campbell's (19-5. 4-2 Big South) lead to 9-4, his third hit of the day after a RBI single in the first and a double in the third.
With a home run in seven of his last nine games, Hallum extended his hit streak to 11 games. The junior also knocked two-run homers on Friday and Saturday at HPU (10-11, 2-1). Hallum knocked in four runs for the fourth time this season.
Matt Parrish was 3-for-5 for Campbell with two RBI, picking up hits in his first three at-bats of the day, including RBI singles in the third and fifth. The junior's RBI single to right in the third gave Campbell a 3-2 lead, scoring Seth LaRue from third.
Parrish sparked a three-run fifth for the Camels with a RBI base hit to center. Austin Beard, 2-for-2 in the win, followed with a two-run single, giving CU a 6-3 lead.
Cedric Mullins scored two runs for the Camels, but his 16 game hitting streak ended at 16 games, a Campbell best this season.
Seth LaRue put the Camels on the board in the top of the first, slapping a RBI double down the rightfield line, scoring on Hallum's RBI single.
HPU tied it up at 2-2 in the home half of the second, getting on the board with Tony Fortier-Benson's RBI single.
Josh Spano's RBI base hit in the fourth tied the game at 3-all before the first of two three-run Campbell rallies.
Steven Leonard picked up a pair of hits in the win, while Kyle Leady scored a run for the Camels.
Hunter Lee led the Panthers, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
Grant Yost (3-2) earned the win for Campbell, working 5 1/3 with four runs, three earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Coley Thompkins tossed 2 2/3 scoreless, striking out two. Spencer Angelis' leadoff double in the seventh gave HPU its only base runner with Thompkins on the mound.
After his three-run homer, Hallum took the hill and shut the door for Campbell, only allowing a one-out walk.
Scot Hoffman (2-3) took the loss, allowing five runs, three earned, on nine hits with three strikeouts. Andre Scrubb was tabbed with a run on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk in 3 1/3, while Joe Goodman surrendered three runs, none earned, on a hit with a strikeout in 1 2/3.
The Panthers took games one and two of the series 9-2 and 10-2 Friday and Saturday.
The Camels will make a trip to Charleston, S.C. on Wednesday, March 25, for a rematch with the College of Charleston. Campbell returns home for the weekend, hosting Radford in a Big South series.
