MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Four Camels combined for Campbell's second shutout of the season, blanking the College of Charleston 2-0 at Patriots Point Wednesday night.
Travis Long (3-0) pitched around leadoff doubles in the third and fourth, striking out his final batter with two on and two out in the fourth to lead Campbell (20-5) to the win and snapping CofC's (14-7) four-game winning streak.
Long allowed just two hits in four innings with three strikeouts and a walk. Andrew Witczak pitched scoreless fifth and sixth innings, allowing two hits, while Bobby Thorson limited CofC to a hit with a strikeout in two more scoreless frames.
Cole Hallum pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his fifth save of the season.
Wade Arduini (0-1) was charged with the loss, surrendering a run on two hits with a walk in 1 1/3 innings. Charleston starter Brandon Glazer allowed a hit with a strikeout and a walk in 2 2/3. Eric Bauer also allowed an unearned run on two hits with a strikeout.
Six Cougars saw time on the mound in the loss.
Glazer limited the Camels to the minimum through three innings before Steven Leonard singled with one out in the fourth. With two on and two out, Cole Hallum singled through the left side, scoring Kyle Leady from second, putting Campbell on the board.
The Camels loaded the bases with one out in the eighth when Seth LaRue singled to third, scoring Dustin Krob to give CU a 2-0 lead.
Hallum extended his hitting streak to 12 games, going 2-for-3 with a RBI and a walk. Leady also went 2-for-4 for the Camels.
Carl Wise and Erven Roper both doubled for the Cougars, who ended the night with five team hits.
The Cougars took the first meeting of the series 10-3 in Buies Creek last week.
Campbell returns home for the weekend, hosting Radford in a Big South series at Jim Perry Stadium March 27-29.
