BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Michael Boyle struck out six, Shane Johnsonbaugh knocked in two runs, and Radford topped Campbell 3-1 Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium.
The Big South series continues tomorrow at 4 p.m. Sunday's series finale is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Boyle (4-2) fanned six in 7 2/3, allowing just an unearned run on four hits with one walk. Ryan Meisinger closed out the final 1 1/3 for his fifth save, allowing two hits with three strikeouts. Johnsonbaugh was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run.
Radford moved to 13-11 overall and 3-1 in Big South games with the win, while Campbell dips to 20-6 on the season and 4-3 in conference play.
Heath Bowers (4-2) was saddled with the loss, going five innings with three runs, all earned, on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Sam Rector pitched four scoreless for CU, allowing three hits with a strikeout and a walk.
The Highlanders sent eight to the plate in the top of the first, with Johnsonbaugh's first RBI double and Josh Reavis' RBI groundout scoring an early pair.
With a man on and one out in the second, RU took a 3-0 lead on another Johnsonbaugh RBI double, scoring Josh Gardiner from first.
In the bottom half of the frame Seth LaRue and Cole Hallum led off with singles. LaRue scored on a Radford error, putting the Camels on the board. Hallum's base hit to the shortstop extended his season-best hitting streak to 13 games.
Boyle retired 14 Camels in the row from the second to the seventh before Matt Parrish's single through the left side with one out.
Campbell threatened in the eighth, loading the bases with two outs before a strikeout ended the inning. Another called strike three with two on and two out ended the game with Campbell threatening again in the bottom of the ninth.
Patrick Marshall went 2-for-4, while Gardiner scored twice for the Highlanders.
LaRue paced Campbell with a 2-for-4 night at the plate.
Campbell travels to nearby Duke on Tuesday, March 31, before returning to Big South play at Presbyterian April 2-4. CU returns home on Tuesday, April 7 against East Carolina.
