BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Charleston Southern used a four-run sixth, using five hits and two Campbell errors to take the Big South series opener 5-3 over the Camels Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium.
CSU (17-18, 7-6 Big South) won its fifth game in a row, while Campbell (25-13, 8-8 Big South) dropped its seventh in a row at home.
Andrew Tomasovich (6-3) pitched 8 2/3 with three runs, all earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks. The junior lefty exited with two outs in the bottom of the ninth after Matt Parrish's RBI single cut the score to 5-3.
Denis Buckley finished the game on the mound, walking one and picking up his third save.
Heath Bowers (6-3) took the loss, allowing five runs, just one earned, on eight hits with six strikeouts and two walks in six innings.
Coley Thompkins tossed three frames, allowing a pair of hits.
The Buccaneers plated all four runs with four of its five hits in the sixth inning, plus the two CU errors all with two outs.
Campbell jumped on the board in the bottom of the first on Kyle Leady's solo home run, his third of the season.
CSU tied it up in the fifth with Ryan Maksim scoring on another Campbell miscue with two outs.
Brian Taylor's sacrifice fly in the eighth made it 5-2 before Parrish's RBI double in the bottom of the ninth.
Chase Shelton was 3-for-5 with a run for the Buccaneers, while Maksim scored twice in the win.
Parrish was 3-for-4 with a RBI for Campbell, while Seth LaRue went 2-for-4 with a run.
The series continues Saturday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader. Game three of the series was originally scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m., but was moved to a Saturday twinbill due to the threat of rain.

The Camels will head to North Carolina on April 21, squaring off with the Tar Heels at 6 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C.
