CLINTON, S.C. – Seth LaRue and Brian Taylor both drove in two, and Campbell clinched its Big South series at Presbyterian with an 8-1 Friday afternoon win.
Campbell (23-8, 6-5 Big South) jumped on the board early with a pair of runs in each of the first two innings, including LaRue's solo homer in the first, taking a 4-0 lead over the Blue Hose (17-13, 1-6).
Eight Camels picked up a hit in the win.
Steven Leonard's sacrifice fly scored Cedric Mullins, who led off the game with a double for the second straight day, giving the Camels an early lead in the first. Two more CU runs came across in the second on Kyle Prats' squeeze, plating Matt Parrish, while Anthony Lopez scored on an error to make it 4-0.
LaRue added his second RBI with a sacrifice fly in the third, going 2-for-3 on the day with two RBI and a run scored.
Nick Thayer (5-1) didn't allow a PC baserunner past first through the first three frames, holding the Blue Hose to five hits and an unearned run through six innings, striking out and walking one in the win.
PC led off the fourth with a Jay Lizanich base hit and a hit by pitch, but Thayer picked up consecutive outs to exit the stanza unscathed. In the bottom of the fifth, PC again put two more on to lead off the inning, but a fielder's choice, a line out and a ground out kept the Blue Hose scoreless.
Wes Noble pitched two scoreless innings for the Camels, with Chris Walkerow finishing out the ninth in order, fanning one.
PC starter Beau Dees (2-3) was charged with the loss, allowing eight runs, six earned, on nine hits with four strikeouts and a walk in 5 2/3.
Taylor highlighted a three-run in the sixth for Campbell, doubling in a pair before scoring on a balk to make it 8-0.
PC scratched across its lone run in the bottom of the inning when Cam McRae scored on a double play after reaching on an error.
Mullins was 2-for-5 with a run for CU, while Parrish and Lopez scored twice.
Peter Johnson and Guy Casaceli both picked up two hits for the Blue Hose.
Campbell took Thursday's series opener 7-2 behind Matt Parrish's 3-for-5, two RBI day, while Cedric Mullins went 4-for-5 with a RBI, a run, two doubles and three stolen bases at the PC Baseball Complex.
Campbell returns to Jim Perry Stadium on Tuesday, April 7, hosting East Carolina. CU takes on North Carolina Central a day later in Buies Creek. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. for both games.
