CLINTON, S.C. – Cedric Mullins drove in two and Campbell completed a Big South series sweep at Presbyterian with a 6-2 win Saturday at the PC Baseball Complex.
After falling victim to its first sweep since 2011, Campbell (24-8, 7-5 Big South) bounced back with an undefeated week, also taking games one and two of the series 7-2 and 8-1 over PC (17-15, 1-8 Big South).
For the third straight day, Mullins, a junior from Snellville, Ga., led off the game with an extra base hit, this time a triple into the corner in right. Kyle Leady's second home run of the year brought Mullins around, giving Campbell an early 2-0 advantage.
Mullins went 2-for-5 on the day with a triple, a double, two RBI, a run, two stolen bases and a walk. The Campbell leadoff man also doubled in two runs in the eighth, extending the Camels' lead to 6-2.
Mullins hit .533 (8-for-15) for the weekend with four doubles, a triple, three RBI and three runs, also going a perfect 7-for-7 on the base paths.
Bobby Thorson (3-1) earned the win in relief for CU, going 2 1/3 scoreless with three hits and four strikeouts. CU starter Grant Yost allowed two in 4 2/3 on seven hits, punching out three.
Coley Thompkins and Cole Hallum also fanned one each in scoreless appearances. Campbell pitching struck out nine PC batters, walking only one.
PC's Hayden Deal (2-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits with a strikeout and three walks.
Seth LaRue doubled in a run in the third for the Camels before Jay Lizanich's two out, two-run homer in the home half of the inning, cutting the Campbell lead to 3-2.
Jesse Simmons tacked a run on for the Camels in the sixth with a RBI groundout before Mullins two-run double in the eighth.
Thorson got out of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings via strikeout, stranding Blue Hose baserunners on the corners in the bottom of the seventh after a pair of two out singles.
Presbyterian left 10 on base in the loss, while Campbell stranded 15, leaving the bases loaded in the eighth and ninth.
Lizanich was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run for the Blue Hose in the loss.
Campbell returns to Jim Perry Stadium on Tuesday, April 7, hosting East Carolina. CU takes on North Carolina Central a day later in Buies Creek. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. for both games.
