RALEIGH, N.C. – Matt Parrish, Brian Taylor and Anthony Lopez all homered, but Campbell fell 9-5 Tuesday night at North Carolina State.
In a game that featured five total home runs, Campbell (27-20) hit a season-high three, while NC State (27-18) lifted two.
All five Campbell runs came on long balls, with Parrish's solo shot in the fourth putting CU on the board. The home run was the first of the junior's collegiate career. Taylor's third of the season left Doak Field in the top of the seventh.
Lopez blasted a three-run home run in the top of the ninth to cut the NC State lead to 9-5 and give the game its final score.
NCSU's Tommy DeJuneas gave the game its first score in the bottom of the second, knocking a two-run homer to left. A five-run NC State fifth that included a Chance Shepard two-run homer put the Wolfpack up 8-1.
Jon Olczak (2-0) worked five frames in the win, allowing a run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Ryan Williamson tossed three innings in relief, allowing a run on five hits with five strikeouts.
Travis Orwig also allowed a run on a hit in the ninth. Brad Stone was also charged with two runs.
Campbell starter Matt Meyer (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on a hit with a strikeout and two walks.
Shepard plated three in the win for the Wolfpack, going 1-for-3 with a home run and a sacrifice fly. Ryne Willard also went 2-for-4, scoring twice.
Parrish was 2-for-4 for the Camels, including the home run. Drew Butler and Kyle Leady joined him with two hits apiece in the loss.
CU travels to historic Durham Athletic Park to battle North Carolina Central tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
Campbell returns to Jim Perry Stadium this weekend, stepping outside of Big South play for a three-game set with Pac-12 member No. 9 California. The Camels will open their series with the Golden Bears on Friday at 6 p.m., following with a Saturday doubleheader at 2 p.m.
