App State defeats Campbell 24-13 Wednesday

BOONE, N.C. - Campbell wrestling dropped its first Southern Conference dual of the 2016-17 season to No. 20/21 Appalachian State, 24-13, Wednesday evening inside Varsity Gym.

Austin Kraisser, Quentin Perez, Ville Heino, and Joshua Heil picked up victories for the Camels on the night.

Campbell led 9-5 after the first four matches, but ASU rallied for 15 consecutive points in the middle of the dual to propel itself to the win.

A.Kraisser began the evening for CU at 157-pounds against Gavin Londoff, where he took a 4-1 win for his first SoCon dual victory. Following him, Perez knocked off Forrest Przybysz at 165-pounds by a score of 9-4 that included 3:37 of riding time. His victory put Campbell ahead in the dual 6-0.

Alex Herringshaw dropped a 17-2 major decision to No. 18 Nick Kee at the 174-pound class, to pull ASU within one, 6-5. Up next was V. Heino at 184-pounds, who won over David Peters-Logue by an 8-5 decision, which gave CU a four-point advantage, 9-5.

After V. Heino's victory, App State collected its four-straight wins, including a fall at 6:06 as Colby Smith knocked off Jonathan Ryan at 133-pounds. Those four victories pushed the Mountaineers to a 20-9 advantage with two matches remaining.

Heil recorded 14 points in the final period of his bout to earn a 16-6 major decision win over Irvin Enriquez to pull Campbell within seven, 20-13. App State closed out the evening with a 13-3 major decision as Matt Zovistoski took the victory against Campbell's Benjamin Barton in the 149-pound matchup.

Along with A.Kraisser's first SoCon victory, Heil picked up his first conference victory of his young career with his major decision win at 141-pounds.

Campbell wrestling will be back at it Dec. 18 at the Reno Tournament of Champions for its last action of 2016. The Camels will begin 2017 at the Southern Scuffle hosted by UT-Chattanooga.
