BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Brian Taylor drove in three on a pair of doubles to lead Campbell over visiting Miami (Ohio) 5-3 Saturday at Jim Perry Stadium.
With the win, Campbell (2-0) takes the series over the RedHawks (0-2), also claiming Friday's season opener 7-0.
Taylor completed a two-out rally for the Camels in the first, doubling home Anthony Lopez and Cole Hallum. Again with two outs in the bottom of the third, Taylor added a RBI double to make it 3-1 Camels.
After Gary Russo's two-run homer knotted the score at three-all, Campbell regained the lead in the bottom of the stanza. Drew Butler scored on a double steal, and Lopez drove in Ben Calvano on a base hit through the left side to make it 5-3.
15 of 17 RedHawks were retired to close the game, including a pick off following a Steve Sada leadoff hit in the eighth.
Grant Yost (1-0) earned the win for Campbell, going seven innings with three runs, two earned, on seven hits with six strikeouts. Cole Hallum picked up the save, his first of the season, retiring the RedHawks in order in the ninth with two punchouts.
Zach Minnick allowed a hit and struck out one in the eighth.
Gus Graham (0-1) took the loss for Miami, surrendering five runs, three earned, on seven hits in 4 1/3, striking out four and walking three. Andy Almquist and Ryan Marske combined for the final 3 2/3 scoreless.
Lopez and Butler both went 3-for-3 for the Camels, with Lopez scoring twice and Butler once.
Russo paced Miami at the plate, going 2-for-4 with the two-run home run. Ross Haffey was also 2-for-4, adding a run.
The series concludes Sunday with a 2 p.m. first pitch.
