BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Adam Abdellaoui scored the lone goal to lift Georgia Southern over Campbell, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the Eakes Athletics Complex.
In the 43rd minute, Abdellaoui received a pass down the right side from Josh Bronstorph and finished his opportunity past
Matthew Mozynski, inside the far left post.
Georgia Southern improves to 6-5-0 overall and Campbell falls to 7-5-1 on the season.
"We didn't play well enough in the first half, but we were inspired by the performance late to chase the game," said head coach
Dustin Fonder. "They showed good character today, we just can't have a slow start like that again."
Campbell's best chance came in the second half off the foot of
Bastien Oberli.
Seth Jones played a ball into the box for Oberli, but Georgia Southern's goalkeeper, Torgeir Fjaer, stopped his attempt from seven yards away.
Mozynski stood tall in goal, making five saves on the day, including a trio of key saves in the second half.
The first stop came just five minutes into the second half. Sander Wang took a shot from distance that Mozynski was able to get a hand to and deflect over the crossbar.
In the 55th minute, Wang connected on a one-touch shot headed for the near post, but Mozynski made a diving kick save to keep the ball out of the net.
Three minutes later, the redshirt senior from Webster, Mass, made another diving stop to keep out Blake Wilson's low shot from the top of the box.
The Eagles outshot the Camels 15-10 and controlled possession for most of the match. The visitors also held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Campbell returns to Big South action on Saturday at 7 p.m., as it hosts Longwood.
