Camels ready for road test at Butler

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell carries its unblemished Pioneer Football League record to Butler Saturday.

The Camels (5-2, 4-0 PFL) have already matched their best conference start (2014), and with one more victory the team will equal the program's all-time high for a single season (2011). Butler (4-3, 2-2 PFL) is coming off two straight conference wins.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl.

Last Time Out
Daniel Smith ran for 169 yards and Aaron Blockmon hauled in two touchdown passes to lead Campbell to a 17-7 road win at Welcome Stadium, remaining unbeaten in Pioneer Football League play.

The Camels picked off two Dayton passes in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory, extending their FCS lead to 16 interceptions and 22 total takeaways.

Blockmon caught four passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns, making his return to the field after missing the previous four outings due to injury. Jaquan Brooks notched a game-high 85 yards on four catches.

Smith ran for 169 yards, also completing 15-of-32 passes for 212 yards.

Carlos Merritt topped the Campbell defense with 11 tackles, while Ray Miller made eight stops, including 3.0 tackles for loss. Emmanuel Olenga added a sack, bringing his season total to 7.5, tying the single season school record.

Leading the Camels
On the offensive side, Smith, a redshirt freshman quarterback, owns 1080 yards and 13 touchdowns passing, adding a team-high 706 yards rushing and four more scores. Josh Jones adds 374 yards and a TD on the ground, while Goods rounds out the three-man rushing attack with 359 yards and seven total scores.

Blockmon owns a team-high 249 yards receiving with three touchdowns, while Bryan Bailey has hauled in 228 yards and two touchdowns.

Jack Ryan owns a team-best 50 tackles, while Olenga has collected 7.5 sacks, matching a school single-season record, and 11.5 total tackles for loss. Merritt owns 47 tackles with five interceptions, scoring a pair of defensive touchdowns. The redshirt senior adds 1.5 tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries.

Campbell's defense leads the nation in team interceptions (16), red zone defense (.500) and turnovers gained (22), also standing in the top-25 of 11 total categories.

Scouting the Bulldogs
After falling to San Diego and Drake in its first two PFL outings, Butler has claimed its last two, including a 37-22 win over Jacksonville on Oct. 14.

Pace Temple guides the Bulldogs offense with 676 yards and four touchdowns receiving. Will Marty has thrown for 1390 yards and seven touchdowns, while Duvante Lane has notched 467 yards rushing with six TDs.

Isaak Newhouse owns 70 tackles, with Ethan Brunhofer chipping in 5.0 tackles for loss, including a sack.

Butler is one of three programs the Camels have played in each of their previous nine seasons (Davidson, Morehead State). The Bulldogs lead the series 5-4. Campbell took last year's meeting 33-27 in overtime.
