BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Gabe Parrish scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute as Campbell and Gardner-Webb battled to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening at the Eakes Athletics Complex.
With tonight's results, Campbell (8-6-3, 4-2-1) sits in third place in the Big South standings and Gardner-Webb (6-6-2, 2-3-1) is in sixth.
High Point and Radford are ahead of Campbell, with Liberty, Presbyterian, and Gardner-Webb sitting behind the Camels in fourth through sixth.
The Camels have one game remaining, along with Radford, while the four other top-6 teams have two matches left on their schedule.
"I think the guys played hard tonight, we just didn't have enough quality in the final third to find the match-winner," said head coach
Dustin Fonder.
Fonder continued, "We had more shots on the night, so it shows we had a good belief and character about us and we commend the guys with their effort tonight."
Parrish's third goal on the season was the equalizer for Campbell with seven minutes left in the match.
The Portland, Ore., product collected the loose ball after
Josh Hughes' blocked shot from just inside the box, took one touch, and placed a hard shot off the near post and into the back of the net.
Gardner-Webb opened the scoring in the 56th minute on Jack Hoey's tap-in goal. Oskar Wang served a cross into Roman Eddleman, who headed a pass to Hoey for the goal from five yards out.
Both sides finished with five shots each in the two overtime sessions and both goalkeepers tallied a pair of key saves to keep the match level.
Matthew Mozynski's biggest and final save of the night came in the 108th minute against Magnus Moldjord.
He found space at the top of the box and finessed a shot to the left post, but a diving Mozynski made the save for the Camels.
Jake Dressman nearly netted the game-winner for Campbell in the 103rd minute.
Dressman's header off
Carel Kayembe's free kick was headed for the top half of the goal, but an outstretched Jacob Beyer made the save.
Campbell outshot Gardner-Webb, 20-17, and held a 12-6 advantage on corner kicks.
Mozynski finished with five saves and
JJ Donnelly tallied a match-high six shots. GWU's Beyer also collected five saves on the night.
