ASHEVILLE, N.C. –
Bastien Oberli converted a penalty kick in the 109th minute to give Campbell a 2-1 victory over UNC Asheville on Sunday afternoon at Greenwood Soccer Field.
Campbell improves to 9-6-3 overall and moves into second place in the Big South with a 5-2-1 league record. UNCA falls to 2-15-0 overall and 1-6-0 in league play.
"It was a very committed performance by the group today," head coach
Dustin Fonder said. "The conditions were extremely harsh, so we had to battle the elements and a good opponent."
Fonder continued, "I am proud of the group for the 9-6-3 finish this season and I am happy we have momentum heading into the postseason."
CU has clinched a home match in the Big South tournament and will await Wednesday's results for its final seeding, tournament opponent, and match date.
The Camels will either finish as the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the final standings, depending on the result of the Liberty versus Radford matchup on Wednesday evening.
Regardless of seeding, Campbell's first round game will be at the Eakes Athletics Complex in Buies Creek with the date to be determined.
UNC Asheville opened the scoring in the 11th minute of action off the head of Zack Compton. Dante Bova flicked on a throw in from Kyle Adams and Compton's headed effort went in past
Matthew Mozynski.
JJ Donnelly leveled the match at 1-1 in the 38th minute.
Travis Gonzalez played a long ball to Donnelly in stride and he put a well-placed shot beyond UNCA goalkeeper Nabil Milani on the left side of goal.

Ian Rees played a through ball to
Josh Hughes who was then taken down from behind to earn the penaly kick for Oberli.
Despite being out shot 26-21, Campbell held a 9-7 in shots on goal advantage. The Bulldogs edged the Camels in shots during the overtime sessions, 8-7.
Mozynski finished with six saves in the match, while Milani and Dakotah Bainter combined for seven saves for UNCA.
Donnelly and Oberli finished with four shots apiece for Campbell, while Compton led the Bulldogs with a match-high five.
CU will be the No. 2 seed and play on Wednesday, Nov. 8, if Liberty and Radford draw on Wednesday. A victory by either team will knock Campbell down to the No. 3 seed and a first round game on Sunday, Nov. 5.
