Second half goal lifts Campbell over HPU

HIGH POINT, N.C. JJ Donnelly scored the lone goal to lift Campbell over High Point, 1-0, at Vert Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Donnelly broke the deadlock in the 65th minute of play with a volleyed finish at the left post. The junior from London, England was on the receiving end of Gabe Parrish's headed cross and connected on right-footed shot at the far post.

Samuel Orisatoki set up the goal with his lofted free kick to the far right post, where Parrish placed his header across frame to Donnelly for the goal.

"Three points in the league is so hard to get, especially on the road," said head coach Dustin Fonder. "I thought our group was very determined and that determination earned them three points tonight."

Campbell improves to 6-4-1 overall and 2-1 in Big South play. High Point falls to 3-4-3 overall and 1-1 in league action.

High Point had a pair of chances late in the second half to equalize, but Campbell's strong defensive effort helped preserve the win.

Bana Ganidekam's header in the 88th minute was the best attempt for the Panthers, but his chance off the corner kick went just high and wide of the goal.

Campbell had a trio of opportunities in the opening 20 minutes of play. Keegan Meyer stopped Donnelly's shot from just outside the box for the first shot on goal of the match.

In the 39th minute, Donnelly found Hughes inside the box, but his attempt went just high of frame. Alemu Mercer-Miko had an opportunity late in the half with a strike from 15 yards away, but the shot was blocked by the Panther defense.

High Point had a pair of chances in the 25th and 30th minutes. The Campbell defensive unit blocked Ebe Kudolo's shot from just outside the box in the 25th minute and Siggi Benonysson's attempt five minutes later went just wide of Matthew Mozynski's frame.

High Point edged Campell in the shot department, 10-7, including 4-3 on target. The Panthers also had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks on the evening.

Mozynski and his counterpart, Meyer, both had three saves on the night. Donnelly had a team-high three shots and Ganidekam posted a match-high six.
