Camels announce future nonconference football dates

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell has officially announced future nonconference football dates through 2022. The list includes 18 total contests with four games against FBS competition, 10 home dates, plus three home and home series.

"In less than a year, our move to scholarship football has allowed us to schedule four years of FBS guarantee games, along with a great home and home slate of  regional opponents," said Campbell Athletics Director Bob Roller. "Our alumni, students and fans showed up this year in record numbers at Barker-Lane Stadium, and we look forward to adding these opponents plus a full Big South schedule for future years."

The Camels will head to Sun Belt member Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. on September 15, 2018. The Chanticleers, who were Big South affiliates from 2003-15, are completing their first season at FBS status in 2017.

CU travels to Troy to open the 2019 season (Aug. 31). The Trojans are eligible for their second consecutive bowl appearance this season.

Georgia Southern will host Campbell in Statesboro, Ga. on September 12, 2020. Six-time FCS National Champions, the Eagles shifted to FBS in 2014, winning the Sun Belt in their first season in the conference.

Liberty will host the Camels on September 4, 2021. The Flames, in their final season as a Big South member, will transition to the FBS next season, playing as an independent.

Rounding out the Camels' 2018 nonconference schedule will be home dates against Chowan (Aug. 30), Shaw (Sept. 22), future Big South member North Alabama (Sept. 29) and Wagner (Oct. 6). Campbell will also complete its home and home series with Georgetown (Sept. 8) after hosting the Hoyas in 2017.

Campbell will also take on key FCS home and home series with Southern Conference member Mercer, as well as William & Mary and Elon of the Colonial Athletic Association.

CU will travel to Mercer on September 28, 2019, with the Bears coming to Barker-Lane Stadium on September 26, 2020. The Camels and Bears will be meeting for the first time as nonconference foes. Mercer claimed its only meeting with CU 38-31 in 2013 as Pioneer Football League rivals.

Elon will host Campbell on September 19, 2020, coming to Buies Creek on September 11, 2021. The Phoenix are currently ranked No. 7 in the country.

The Camels will host William & Mary on October 12, 2019, while completing the home and home series in Williamsburg, Va. in 2022. The date is to be determined.

Other future dates include home games against Shaw (Sept. 7, 2019) and Davidson (Sept. 21, 2019 and Sept. 5, 2020).

The Big South will release its 2018 conference schedule at a later date.

Campbell completed its 10th season on the gridiron in 2017 (modern era), bringing football back to the Creek in 2008 after a 58 year hiatus. 2017 marked the program's final season as a member of the PFL, heading to the Big South in 2018.

Campbell was one of 10 FCS programs to average a sellout in 2017, breaking the Barker-Lane Stadium average (5,546) and total (33,276) attendance records for the second straight season.

Campbell (6-5, 5-3 PFL), which wrapped up its season on Saturday, matched school modern era records for overall and conference wins in 2017.
