Campbell hosts Mercer on Thursday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell returns home to host Mercer on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. to begin its four-game homestand.

Campbell notes
Campbell has won four in a row, including back-to-back road games, most recently at UNCG, 72-61. CU also defeated CofC on Nov. 22, 53-45, on the road.

At UNCG, Summer Price led the Camels with a career day, scoring a career-high 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting. Her 28 points put her at the 1,000-point mark in her career, the 18th student-athlete in Campbell women's basketball history to reach that mark.

Taya Bolden posted her second double-double of the season at UNCG, scoring 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting and grabbing 12 rebounds. Bolden also had a double against William Peace with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Price leads the Camels with 16.6 points per game. Bolden posts a 10.6 rebounds per game average to lead CU. MaKala Rouse posts 5.4 points per game along with 5.4 rebounds and a team-high 5.75 assists per game.

Price and Ashlyn Hampton claimed Big South weekly honors as, Price was named the Big South Player of the Week and Hampton earned Freshman of the Week honors. Price scored 40 points during the two games and Hampton added 10 points and five rebounds during the week.
 
Mercer notes
Mercer comes to Buies Creek after splitting its games at the GSU Thanksgiving Classic. The Bears defeated VCU (70-54) and fell to Western Kentucky (67-62).

The Bears only other loss on the year is a 72-54 result at Georgia (Nov. 19). Mercer opened the season with three straight wins: at UCF (73-64), at Florida Atlantic (66-55) and at home against Georgia Southern (72-45).

Three scorers average in double figures for the Bears, led by Kahlia Lawrence's 17.8 points per game. She averages a perfect 13-for-13 from the line and 41 percent from the floor.

KeKe Calloway follows Lawrence with 14.3 points per game, including a 40 percent clip (21-of-52) from beyond the arc. Sydni Means, the first SoCon Player of the Week in 2017-18, posts a 10.8 points per game mark on the year.

On the glass, the Bears average 32 rebounds per game, led by Amanda Thompson's 7.3 per game output. Rachel Selph has snagged 4.5 and Alex Williams has 4.0 boards per game.
 
Strong Offensive Starts At Home
The Camels have outscored opponents by an average of 45 points in the last six home openers (5-1). The largest margin of victory in the last five home-openers was 69 points (102-33) against Barber-Scotia (11/10/12). Most recently, Campbell won by 52 over William Peace on Friday, Nov. 10.
 
Loss In Season-Opener
In 2015-16, Campbell's last season-opening loss, CU bounced back by winning five of its next six contests. Campbell is currently 4-0 after its season-opening loss at Kansas on Nov. 12.
 
Freshmen Impact
Through the first three games, all six freshmen have appeared for the Camels. Five recorded at least 10 minutes of game time at Kansas, led by Tatyana Carver's 22 minutes.
 
Against William Peace, Julia Crocker made her collegiate debut, knocking down a 3-pointer on her first shot of the game.

Lauren McNamara-Clement has earned back-to-back starts at College of Charleston (11/22) and at UNCG (11/25), joining Kyra Davis as the only two freshmen to earn a start this season.
 
Big South Weekly Awards
McNamara-Clement picked up the first weekly award of the season for the Orange and Black, earning Freshman of the Week honors on Nov. 20.
 
Summer Price earned Player of the Week honors on Nov. 27. Ashlyn Hampton was named the Freshman of the Week for her performances to help CU sweep the weekly Big South awards.
 
Bold On The Glass
Taya Bolden has been a force on the glass, snagging at least 10 rebounds in the last four games, including a career-high 14 against William Peace.

Follow Us, We'll Lead The Way
Campbell has lead for 152:27 during its four-game winning streak. The Camels have trailed for only 2:30 in that span.

1,000-Point Watch
Senior guard Summer Price reached the 1,000-point mark at UNCG on Nov. 25. She scored a career-high 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting to reach the milestone. Price tallied 416 points last season, 45 percent of her three-year career total.
 
Big South Preseason
The Camels were tabbed third in the Big South preseason poll, earning 77 points in the voting. Campbell finished four points ahead of fourth place High Point, and four points behind second place Liberty. Summer Price and MaKala Rousewere named to the preseason second team all-conference.
 
2017-18 Camels
CU returns nine from last season, including its top four scorers, while adding six new faces to the squad. Price, Rouse, Caroline Bowns and Hannah Long pace the top four returning scorers for the Camels.
 
Hayley BarberBreanna FosterTaya BoldenSarah Smith and Alyshia Allison also return for the Orange and Black. Joining the squad is Micaila ColemanAshlyn HamptonTatyana CarverKyra Davis and Julia Crocker.
 
Campbell signs two for 2018
Head coach Ronny Fisher announced the signing of Shyanne "Shy" Tuelle and Lauren Carter to the 2018 incoming class.
 
Tuelle, a 5-10 guard, comes to Campbell from Hampton, Tenn., and Hampton High School. Carter, a 6-0 forward, joins the Camels from High Point, N.C., and Southwest Guilford High School.
 
Postseason Play
Campbell made its first postseason appearance in 17 years in 2017, as it earned a spot in the Women's Basketball Invitational. CU fell to St. Francis (Pa.), 79-68, on March 16 in tournament play.
 
Top Scoring Defense
Campbell finished the 2016-17 season with the top scoring defense in NCAA Division I, allowing just 49.6 points per game. The Camels held teams to just 47.8 points per game inside Gore Arena. CU tallied nine double-digit victories, holding opponents to under 40 points in five of those contests.
 
Big South 2016-17 Honors
MaKala Rouse was named the 2016-17 Big South Defensive Player of the Year. Rouse also earned honorable mention all-conference honors. Summer Price earned second team honors and former Camel, Brianna Cribb, picked up all-academic honors.
