Rouse's double-double lifts CU over WCU 58-51

BUIES CREEK, N.C. MaKala Rouse posted her first double-double of the season to lead Campbell to a 58-51 victory over Western Carolina on Monday evening inside Gore Arena.

Rouse contributed season-highs in points (19) and rebounds (11) in the victory. Summer Price scored in double figures for the 14th consecutive game, adding 13 points for the Orange and Black.

With an even score line at 36-36, Campbell (5-2) went on a 15-4 run in the second half to gain a double-digit lead, 51-40, 3:52 in the fourth quarter. The Camels used five different scorers during that stretch, led by Ashlyn Hampton and Rouse with four points each.

Hampton posted career-highs in points and rebounds with nine points, including a career-best 3-of-4 from the charity stripe, and seven rebounds.

Sherae Bonner led all scorers with 23 points, helping the Catamounts (1-7) to a 24-20 edge in points in the paint. Bonner also grabbed six rebounds, but was limited to just one in the second half.

Campbell trailed by as many as 12 in the second quarter, 26-14, but used a 14-2 run spree to even the contest at 28-28 just 38 seconds into the third quarter.

The visitors reclaimed a four-point lead midway through the third quarter, 35-31, but Campbell fought back to even the score at 36-36 before taking a commanding 11-point lead. WCU got as close as four with 3:02 left in the contest, but solid free throw shooting helped CU secure the victory.

Overall, the Camels made a season-high 15 free throws on 20 attempts, led by Micaila Coleman's career-high 5-of-6 from the stripe. She connected on three in the final 26 seconds to help Campbell seal the win. Rouse also knocked down 5-of-6 at the line, two of which came with 1:06 left to keep the lead at two possessions.

Campbell was held to its lowest output of the season from downtown, only connecting on 21.7 percent (5-of-23) of its shots in the contest. Contrary to the last five outings, CU led for only 14:22 of the game, while WCU led for 22:20, including more than 19 minutes in the first half.

The Camels converted 17 offensive rebounds into 16 second chance points and turned 20 Catamount turnovers into 21 points to lead both categories.

Campbell returns to action on Dec. 14 at 11:45 a.m., against Columbia International for the team's annual Education Day game.
