Camels tie for 3rd in top-notch field at The Hayt Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLA. – Ray Kraivixien finished fifth individually and Campbell moved up to a third place tie following Sunday's final round of The Hayt Invitational men's golf tournament at Sawgrass Country Club.

In a field that included five teams ranked among the nation's top 50, Campbell (293-292-290—875) recorded the low team score of the day and finished even with No.-49 UCF (285-299-291).  Host North Florida, ranked No.-36 nationally by Golfstat, won the 15-school event at 7-over 871 (291-286-294), three strokes better than No.-13 Jacksonville (295-285-294—874).

With their fifth top-five effort in seven tournaments this season, the Camels placed ahead of No.-33 Liberty (878), plus representatives of the Atlantic Coast (Louisville), Southeastern (Tennessee) and Pacific Athletic (UCLA) Conferences.

Peter Kim of Army won individual honors at 6-under-par 210 (72-68-70), one stroke ahead of UNF's Phillip Knowles (73-67-71—211) and David Wicks of Jacksonville (70-70-71—211).

A sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand, Kraivixien recorded his second top-five showing of the year by finishing at 2-under 214 (71-70-73).  He tied for second in the field in par-five scoring (-7) and tied for seventh with 35 pars.  Kraivixien's final round included two birdies and 13 pars.

Fellow sophomore Jesper Svensson tied for 23rd (75-73-73—221), while freshmen Brett McLamb (77-77-71—225) and Max Theodorakis (81-72-73—226) were 40th and 44th, respectively.  Senior Craig Hornberger finished in a tie for 51st (70-80-78—228) in the 84-golfer field.

As a team, the Camels tied for first in the field in par-3 scoring (+8) and were third on the par-5 holes (-13) and in pars (154).  The Camels combined for 48 birdies, fourth-best in the event.

Svensson matched Kraivixien at 7-under on the par-five layouts, tied for sixth in par-3 scoring (even) and eighth with 12 birdies. 

The Camels return to action Mar. 10-11 in the Border Olympics at Laredo (Texas) Country Club.
