FAIRFAX, Va. --- Campbell earned a 3-0 victory (25-11, 25-23, 25-19) over George Mason Friday night in the Patriots' home tournament to move to 5-0 on the young season. It's the program's best start to a campaign since 1997.
Jessica Stocking continued her strong play in the tournament and put down a match-high 16 kills. She added 10 digs for her second-straight double-double.
Allena Heath tallied 11 kills and just missed a double-double with nine digs.
Kayla Schanback registered a match-high 13 digs while
Summer Schuitema dished out a match-high 36 assists.
A 4-0 run for the Camels earned a 10-5 lead early in the first set. It was a 13-9 Campbell lead when CU reeled off eight-straight points to take a commanding 21-9 advantage. The Patriots (1-4) could only draw within 22-11 before three-straight Camel kills ended the first set.
GMU took an early 3-0 lead in the second set and led until a 4-0 Campbell run gave CU its first lead of the set at 9-7. Mason reeled off four-straight points to earn a 18-16 advantage and it took three-straight Camel points to give CU the lead back at 20-19.
Back-to-back Patriot attack errors gave Campbell set point at 24-22. Mason drew back within one, but Heath ended the set with a big kill and put CU up 2-0.
Kills from
Rachel Harty and Stocking gave the Camels a 12-10 lead in the third and it was a 17-13 advantage later in the frame. Campbell led by as many as 21-15 before Schuitema dumped the ball over the net to give CU a 25-19 win in the third and earn Campbell the sweep.
Bailey Williams led George Mason with seven kills while Katrina Santos and Phila Jarvenpaa put down six kills apiece. Kelly Schaller dished out 29 assists and Williams added a team-high 12 digs.
The Camels will go for their second-straight weekend sweep Saturday against Central Michigan at 1:30 p.m.
