Camels fall to Central Michigan 3-0

FAIRFAX, VA. – Campbell dropped its final game of the George Mason Invitational, 3-0, to Central Michigan on Saturday afternoon.

Jordan Bueter posted a match-high 15 kills to lead the Central Michigan offense and Taylor Robertson contributed a contest-best 34 assists.

Madison Linxwiler led CU with seven kills, followed by Allena Heath's six. Summer Schuitema paced the Campbell offensive attack with 16 assists.

"Overall I was pleased with how the team performed this weekend," stated head coach Greg Goral. "Friday we overcame a very good Penn team and George Mason's home opener. Both teams came at us with a lot of energy and we responded well.

Goral continued, "Central Michigan played really well and executed much better than we did today. They played physical and fast and the fatigue from Friday caught up with us a little bit."

Central Michigan opened the first set with a five-point lead, 10-5, after a kill from Paige Carey. A Madee Miner killed closed the gap to six, 21-15, but CMU rallied off four straight points to take the opening set 25-15.

Similar to the first set, CMU opened the second with a five-point advantage. The Camels defense forced a trio of errors from the CMU offense to close the gap to one, 15-14.  CU continued to battle as a kill from Rachel Harty gave CU a 22-21 lead late in the set. Central Michigan scored four unanswered to claim the set 25-22.

Campbell started strong in the third set as kills from Harty, Heath, and Jessica Stocking put CU ahead 7-3. CMU climbed back to even the score at 8-8 on a kill from Lyza Myers. The two sides exchanged the next 12 points to stay level at 14-14. CMU capped off the third set on an 11-1 run to win the match.

"I think we played better offensively this weekend than last the first and I look forward to seeing what we can do this upcoming week," Goral added.

Campbell returns home for a midweek contest against UNCW, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.
