WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Campbell (4-2-1) fell, 2-0, to William & Mary (3-2-2) Saturday afternoon at the Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.
With the loss, CU's five-match unbeaten streak ends, having gone 4-1 in the previous five contests.
"We think today was a game that can help us look internally and fix some things to be more prepared going into league play," said head coach
Dustin Fonder.
William & Mary's Graham Guidry opened up the scoring in the 35th minute of play. Guidry received a pass from Ryder Bell and put away a shot over the outstretched hand of
Matthew Mozynski.
Campbell's offense found opportunities in the William & Mary third of the field, but CU couldn't find a shot towards goal in the opening 45 minutes of play.
The Tribe doubled their lead in the 72nd minute on Antonio Bustamante's penalty kick.
After a tackle in the box caused the penalty kick, Bustamante converted the kick to the far left side of the goal to put the Tribe up 2-0.
The Camels, looking to halve the deficit, had three corner kicks in the final 10 minutes of the game, but they were unable to convert on the opportunities.
Campbell also tallied four shots, including one on frame, during the second half of play.
Mozynski tallied five saves in the match, while his counterpart Phil Breno only had one. The two sides finished with four corner kicks apiece.
Campbell returns home on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. against UNCG.
