BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Allena Heath tallied 14 kills and Jessica Stocking added 10 to help Campbell earn a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-23, 25-19) of UNCW in volleyball action from Gore Arena Tuesday night.
Campbell moves to 6-1 on the season, the program's best start since 1998. Summer Schuitema tallied a double-double with 33 assists and 20 digs, which were both match-highs.
Kayla Schanback, who was recognized before the match for her 1,000 career digs, dug-up 18 balls while Stocking earned a double-double with 10 digs. Madison Linxwiler added eight kills and three blocks.
With the Camels holding a 2-0 advantage in the match, Schuitema stepped to the serving line in the third set with the score locked at 12-12. The Camels would reel off seven-straight points, with two kills from Heath during the run, to take a 19-12 advantage.
UNCW (3-4) would draw back within 21-18 later in the set, but three-straight kills from Stocking and a Seahawk attack error sealed the sweep for the Camels against their in-state rival.
Maddy Kline had a team-high eight kills and 12 digs for UNCW. Teammate Michaela Whilte matched her 12 digs, and had a double-double with 15 assists. Madison Peters and Sydney Brock had six kills apiece.
A 7-0 Camel run in the first set off the service of Schuitema gave Campbell a 17-12 advantage in the opening frame. Back-to-back Seahawk points forced a timeout from CU, but a kill from Hannah Schneggenburger, and a UNCW attack error, put Campbell up 23-17 late in the frame.
Another Schneggenburger kill gave the Camels set point and Stocking ended it with a kill in the ensuing rally.
It was a back-and-forth second set, and the Seahawks held a 15-12 advantage midway through the frame. Linxwiler Kicked off a 4-0 Camel spurt that turned a 16-14 deficit into an 18-16 Camel advantage.
Three-straight Campbell kills made it 21-17 and forced a Seahawk timeout. Heath earned CU set point with a big kill at 24-20. UNCW reeled off three-straight points to cut the deficit to 24-23, but Heath put another kill in the books to earn the set win for the Camels.
Campbell will return to action this weekend (Sept. 8-9) at the North Texas Challenge. The Camels will face off against New Orleans, Oregon State and North Texas in the two-day event.
