BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell University men's cross country team has received a plethora of accolades following a second place finish at the Virginia-Panorama Farms Invite in Earlysville, Va., on Saturday.
The Camels are ranked sixth in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Region ranking for the second consecutive week. CU moved up from its preseason ranking of No. 7 following the first week of competition on Sept. 11.
This week, the Fighting Camels also received recognition on a national scale, as CU earned votes in the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll for the second time in program history.
Campbell earned eight votes in the poll, which only trails Michigan (21), Texas (13) and Navy (11) for schools that received votes and did not make the Top-25. The men will look to crack the Top-25 in the coming weeks, a feat that has never been accomplished in Campbell cross country history.
After going 1-2 at the meet this past weekend,
Lawrence Kipkoech and
Amon Kemboi are listed in FloTrack's latest national individual rankings. Kipkoech remains at 19th, which he began at to start the season, and Kemboi enters the ranking for the first time at 25th.
The Camels' men's squad will return to competition at Pre-Nationals on Oct. 14 in Louisville, Ky. For the latest information about Campbell cross country, make sure to follow @GoCamelsRun on Twitter.
