Highlanders top Camels 3-1

Three Camels finish with double-figure kills, but CU falls to Radford

BUIES CREEK, N.C. --- Three Camels finished with double-figure kills, but Campbell suffered a 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23) loss to Radford Friday night in Big South Conference volleyball action at Gore Arena.
 
Allena Heath and Madison Linxwiler each put each put down a team-high 15 kills for CU (10-8, 0-4 BSC), while Jessica Stocking tallied 13 kills. Kayla Schanback finished with a season-high 30 digs and a career-high nine assists.

Camel setter Summer Schuitema registered a double-double with 40 assists and 17 digs. Heath also had a double-double as she matched a career-high 16 digs. Hannah Schneggenburger tallied six kills and four blocks.

Radford (13-1, 3-0) took a 2-1 advantage in the match with its six-point third set victory. Neither team led by more than two in the fourth set. The lead also changed hands seven times and it was tied on 10 different occasions in the frame.

A kill by Stocking and a Highlander attack error gave the Camels a 14-13 advantage midway through the set. Two Campbell errors gave the lead back to Radford, but a kill from Heath knotted the game at 20-20 a few rallies later.

Back-to-back points for RU forced a Camel timeout, and the Highlanders took match point at 24-22 off an error from Stocking. Stocking cut the deficit back to one with a kill and CU looked to force extra points. However, Maddie Palmer ended the match with a final kill to seal the win for Radford.

Palmer led all players with a match-high 20 kills and had a double-double with 14 digs. Stephanie Neast also had a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs, while Kaylor Nash dug-up a team-high 29 balls. Haley Kleespies led her side with 35 assists.

After the Highlanders four-point first set victory, Radford raced out to a 14-5 advantage in the second set. Campbell responded with a 6-0 burst to cut the deficit to 14-11 with the help of two aces from Heath.

RU broke the run and held a 21-17 lead later in the frame. A kill from Schuitema kicked off a 4-0 run for the Camels that tied the match at 21-21.

RU answered with a kill, but back-to-back errors gave Campbell its first lead of the match at 23-22. CU closed out the set win with a kill from Schneggenburger and a Highlander attack error.

The Camels will return to action Tuesday night on the road at Charleston Southern. First serve from the Buc Dome is set for 6 p.m.
