NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Campbell University swimming was defeated by Southeastern Conference member Vanderbilt, 198-166, in a relay style meet on Friday afternoon inside the Centennial Sportsplex.
The Commodores won the first four events before Campbell picked up back-to-back victories in the 500 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay.
In the 500 free, Hannah Kendall, Maddie Baiotto, Neringa Cerniauskaite and Annie Sanchez swam a 4:36.13, while Megan Everritt, Taylor McMinn, Baiotto and Sarah Wilson finished the 400 medley in 3:54.88.
Campbell closed out the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Cerniauskiate, Sanchez, Kendall and Wilson collectively swam a 3:31.44, which bested Vanderbilt's second-place squad by over four seconds.
Despite winning just three of the day's 10 events, a CU relay team took second place in six races, including a close finish in the 3x50 butterfly relay. Maddie Heggie, Baiotto and Scott posted a time of 1:18.76, which was exactly 0.20 seconds behind Vanderbilt's winning time of 1:18.56.
On their way back to Buies Creek from Nashville, the Camels will make a stop in Asheville, N.C., tomorrow to face fellow CCSA member UNC Asheville at 10:30 a.m.
