MADISON, Wis. - Amon Kemboi and
Lawrence Kipkoech are set to close out the season Saturday, November 17 as the Campbell pair will compete in the NCAA Men's Championship 10K Race set to begin at 12:45 ET (11:45 CT).
The championship event will take place at the Thomas Zimmer Championship course in Madison, Wis. The meet can be streamed live on
Flo Track and can be followed along through
live stats.
Kemboi and Kipkoech enter Saturday's final after qualifying at the NCAA Southeast Region Championships at the Winthrop Farm. The pair are two of 38 automatic qualifying individuals to take part in the 10K Championship. Kemboi and Kipkoech finished fourth and fifth, respectively to punch their ticket to the championship event. Kemboi tabbed a 29:34.6 time in the 10K while Kipkoech crossed the finish line just moments later with a time of 29:45.1.
This marks the second trip to nationals for sophomore
Amon Kemboi and the fourth trip in as many years for senior
Amon Kemboi.
The pair's qualifying race comes after the men's team claimed its fourth-consecutive Big South Championship, which it won in dramatic fashion on Oct. 26 in Kernersville, N.C. All five Fighting Camels scorers earned all-conference honors by finishing among the top 12 led, by individual champion
Lawrence Kipkoech and
Amon Kemboi.
Amon Kemboi is a three-time All-American and an eight-time Big South Conference Individual Champion. A season ago the Kapsabet, Kenya native was tabbed as the Big South Cross Country Runner of the Year and the Big South Cross Country Freshman of the Year.
Lawrence Kipkoech is a two-time USTFCCCA All-American and a three-time NCAA Southeast All-Region honoree. The Eldoret, Kenya native was also named the 2017 NCAA Southeast Regional Athlete of the Year. Adding to the senior's honors is recognition as a three-time Big South All-Conference stake as well as being named the Big South Runner and Freshman of the Year in 2015.
